Challenge

Red Deer Polytechnic faced challenges in attracting new welding students. Due to the hands-on nature of the welding trade, which made it difficult to generate interest when recruiting and finding interested students.

Solution

The idea was to set up a welding booth at trade shows. Rockbox Structures designed and fabricated a portable two-bay welding shop with welding gas storage from a 20' shipping container that can be transported to various locations for trade shows. With the custom steel checker plate floor and steel walls that allows potential students to try welding for the first time.

Results

Due to the ease of mobility associated with shipping containers, Red Deer Polytechnic is now positioned to offer a welding experience in recruiting the next generation of welders with the Rockbox portable two-bay welding shop container.
